Once again, I gotta say, you are the man!  Great video!  

I just downloaded part 2 and it was awesome seeing the Roy Nichols licks.  I grew up listening to Hag because of my father.

One other thing, I really like the format of these videos…. Just under 30 minutes is perfect.

I used to teach guitar and any more than 30 minutes everything begins to stagnate. Kudos to you my friend for taking the new approach.  

I’ll keep you posted on my progress!

I am 45 years old and have been playing since I was fourteen. I have struggled to get a focus but I have one now.  I want to be a decent country lead player!

Need a little PUSH?

I was just sitting here today (actually for the last FIVE hours) with my Tele plugged in SWEATING to some new ideas!

It’s been a while since I felt this good!

I just COULDN’T RESIST sharing some encouragement and inspiration for you today…

I stopped playing for a short break, checked my email a minute ago (below) and it got me started!

After reading, it really got me thinking………

I get this question a lot from guys who just found the website and don’t know what to expect from the materials… OR WHERE TO START!

Here’s that email;

Doug,

I have been practicing and getting a little better and faster. I get frustrated though. I’m 43 now. Can a guy my age take his guitar playing to the next level?

I have been playing lead in a country band and want so much to be “chicken picking” but I just can’t rap my brain around it!

Can you teach this old dog some new tricks?

Control Your Guitar!

Right Hand Techniques – Double Stops – Triple Stops

I once said the words, “I guess I’ll never pick with my fingers.”

(Ya know… Chicken Pickin, Hybrid Picking)

I thought only a certain breed of guitarists could do it or something… I tried switching to a thumb pick (to try and FORCE my fingers to do the work). It worked okay for a while but it wasn’t comfortable for me and my style in the long run.

I started finding my own little exercises (basically licks) to try
and MAKE my fingers do what I knew they should be doing. I literally did these runs for hours at a time, many times a day.

Like I always say in the videos, “Just like lifting weights, practice something until you’re fatigued, and then repeat.”

What I ended up doing was just using my 2nd (middle) finger and got it working good enough before I Incorporated my other (ring) finger.

It took a while but I found myself using my two fingers together without thinking about it. It started feeling natural to me the more I used it…

Volume 4 country guitar video has been the MOST helpful resource on this subject among many others to hundreds of guitarists…

I KNOW Will get you extremely inspired and motivated!

That’s what I’m all about ya know…

EXACTLY HOW, When, Why and WHAT to Practice?

Face it; nobody has the TIME to set down with our guitars like we did when we were 16 years old…

Let me tell you some awesome TRUTHS about practicing that are very misunderstood - And you need this info!

REAL Practice is not what everybody thinks it is, in my opinion anyway…

Here’s the ONLY Method that works;

It doesn’t take a LONG TIME to do this either…

It’s actually INSTANT. And it brings back that “FIRST LOVE” feeling with guitar that you had when you first started playing.

My advice to everyone that asks is: DON’T EVER practice or even PLAY your guitar until something VERY specific happens!

It’s very important and I’ll explain what & why.

I don’t practice unless I specifically WANT TO…

When I’m *awestruck by another guitarist or a piece of music in such a way that I’m so overwhelmed by inspiration that I can’t help but pick up my Axe.

See, that’s the KEY, Being inspired is the SINGLE MOST powerful method of practice EVER!!!

That’s EXACTLY why players in certain cities seem to be MUCH better than every one else in “non-musical” towns… (Nashville, Chicago, Branson, Austin ect…)

They’re all surrounded by great players and NEW SOUNDS to inspire them.

BUT, don’t pack your things yet…

Every city and “Guitar-Town” in the world is just a click away nowadays. (Youtube, Myspace, Facebook ect…)

This is what I do and how I do it:

The only time I EVER practice is when I’m inspired or CHARGED-UP in a *unique way.

THAT same inspiration ONLY comes through hearing a piece of guitar work that makes me emotional, OR seeing another guitar player do things that I would LOVE to be able to on my guitar!

When I “SEE” or ”HEAR” something that makes me “FEEL”, that’s when practice is REALLY TRUE and productive.

Actually, that’s the only time practice is even worth doing!

 Something FUNNY Happens, come to think of it, I ALWAYS seem to have that “missing” element (time) at my disposal when I’m in this “Spiritual MOOD”.

I cannot use time as an excuse anymore… Because my DRIVE is AWAKE and nothing else seems to matter as much. (My work, the yard, the broken toilet ect…)

That’s exactly the reason I put a COMPLETE practice section at the beginning Volume 3 - Guitar Video…

I absolutely had to show you how to practice correctly and HOW to get inspired…

I actually SHOW you the resources I USE to get motivated and inspired!

It’s IMPOSSIBLE to get in a “RUT” when you follow this section of the video.
